Nursing Graduate Student Exclusions from Professional Loan Caps:

  • Department of Education (DE) and the Reimaging and Improving Student Education (RISE) Committee announced provisions limiting government support for unsubsidized education loans for graduate education. These would exclude post BSN programs from the higher “professional” degree annual and total caps.
    • Graduate students will have cap of $100,000 with annual limit of $20,500
    • Professional students will have cap of $200,000 with annual limit of $50,000
  • These provisions may negatively impact those seeking advanced practice education and our patients by limiting available health care services particularly in our rural communities.
